Past Projects
The following products are items fabricated by former or current students at South Side High School during their twenty weeks in Outdoor Structures with Mr. Murphy. They range in degree of difficulty as well as cost and time to create. At the beginning of each semester, students are given the option to select whatever project they desire to make. They are encouraged to choose a project based on four factors; time, cost, skill level and available equipment. Completion of the project is an essential part of the grading system and therefore, the selection of a project, is an extremely important component of the course.
All of the projects shown at this site are "A" quality and despite the varying degrees of difficulty, size of the structures, number of parts, etc. each project viewed received a class grade of 93 or better. One need not make something large or expensive to secure a good grade. A small project well done is as valuable, or more valuable, when it comes to grading. In this class, it is the Journey and not the destination that is important. Safe, organized, and professional techniques used to make the project are more important than the project.
